Real-time rail-sensor monitoring across Western Australia
Arc Infrastructure's in-house monitoring product was replaced with a real-time pipeline. Level-crossing sensor data flows from collectors to TimescaleDB, an Azure medallion architecture and a live Power BI status and alarm report.

The problem
Arc Infrastructure manages the rail network across Western Australia. Its in-house product for monitoring sensors at level crossings had to be replaced with something that could scale with the network and support proactive maintenance.
What we built
The DataDivers team built the full workflow end to end:
- Three collector server nodes gathering readings from level-crossing sensors across WA, with redundancy built in.
- TimescaleDB to consolidate the high-frequency time-series data.
- Azure Data Factory moving data into an Azure SQL medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold).
- A live Power BI report showing the status and alarms of every sensor at every location.
The data was massive: battery levels, statuses, train speeds, traffic and more. Standard visuals could not plot it, so we built a new custom Power BI visual.
Outcome
A redundant, scalable real-time monitoring platform that supports Arc’s network expansion and its move to proactive maintenance.
